 How do the Japanese spend their Summer?


Often do we see the Japanese people wear light pieces of clothing due to their cold and cozy weather. We are so used to seeing them wear heavy jackets, beanies, and boots. Anyway, have you ever wondered how the people of Japan spend the Summer season?  

Well, if that's the case here are some of the most popular local activities during summer in Japan:

1. Yukata Matsuri



- Most Japanese attend festivals, during Summer. Especially, the Yukata Matsuri held from July 22-24 where Japanese men and women get to wear light cotton casual kimonos (Yukata) during the event. The "matsuri" or festival usually have countless food vendors and souvenir stalls, programs, and oftentimes fireworks display at the end of the festival. 




2. Beach


-Little did some of you know, that Japanese people also love the beach! Especially, in the middle of the summer heat. From late July to late August, families with young children and the group of youth who visit the beach. The most popular beach destinations in Japan are Okinawa, Izu Peninsula and Ogsawara Islands. Tho, Japan is still one of the most underrated beach destinations in Asia.




3. Firework Festivals





-During Summer, one of the best activities is watching fireworks display. There are thousands of fireworks displayed all over Japan during July to September. From small matsuris to hours of continuous fireworks like in Fukoroi, Shizouka. The Fukoroi fireworks display usually happen on the second weekend of August every year. Summer nights in Japan are usually well spent with good dinner and fireworks display after.



4. Water Parks





-Since Japan, has a cold weather, Water Parks are only open a few months a year. Japan's water parks are only open during Summer. They usually open early July and close early September making Japan's water parks jam-packed on these months. 



5. Camping



-Camping has only just only just became famous among Japan. Yet, despite it being a recent trend there are already campgrounds nestled in the entire country. If you are planning to go camping during the summer school vacation you better make reservations!







Figuratively, Japan's Summer season is one of the hottest. The list of activities cited above are just some activities during Summer season frequently done by the locals. Well, why not explore a little and try going where Japanese people go during summer? instead of visiting temples and shopping; go and do activities that let you mingle with people. Plan your summer vacation right, visit Japan and try to do all the activities out with your friends and family!
